My grandfather collected transistor radios. I am fortunate enough to have the collection.
These radios represent the technological and cultural miniaturization that took place in the 50's and 60's.
I suppose this could also be seen in the number of transistors being packed onto CPU's making devices like our cell phones mobile, smaller and more powerful.
Just for fun, I removed the back of the Zenith Royal 51 and dropped in 4 AA batteries. It turned right on and the first station it tuned into a classic country radio station, 1520 KXA AM, just like the old man used to listened to. The reception was great so I put the radio on the window sill and just let it play while I typed this up. Old school cool.
I have quite a few radios and will add them to this gallery as I get around to it.
